Windows 10 with Expiration Date?
With the Anniversary Update for Windows 10, Microsoft has just shipped a new operating system release, and now the work on the next one (codename Redstone 2) is already in full swing.
Testers of the Insider Preview Ring have just been provided with a new preview build of Windows 10. The corresponding blog post reports numerous small experimental innovations, Edge browser additions, and fixes for various problems. In addition, the blog post refers to the expiration of older Windows builds.
Windows users, who are still working with an older preview build of Windows 10, will be prompted with immediate effect to update their operating system to a new build. Until October 1st, users will see build expiration notifications once a day and then these PCs will start rebooting every 3 hours. On October 15th PCs with an old preview status of Windows 10 will stop booting at all. The latest build 14926 will be valid until May 1st, 2017.
Windows 10 users who are members of the Slow and Release Insider Preview rings will still obtain the Anniversary Update and will not be notified of their build expiring.
