Windows 10 Pro for Workstation
Apparently Microsoft is planning a new release of Windows 10 that is particularly designed for high-performance desktop systems, and goes under the working title “Windows 10 Pro for Workstation”.
According to a non-public presentation slide, Microsoft mentions four key features of this new release of Windows 10:
-
A currently unspecified “Workstation mode” that should optimize the operating system during load peaks of computing or graphic-intense applications.
-
The introduction of the “Resilient Files System” (ReFS), as the successor to NTFS. The new file system is optimized to handle big data and includes a higher fault tolerance.
-
Support of the SMBDirect protocol, allowing high-speed file transfers within a network even during low latency or low CPU utilization.
- Expanded hardware support for PCs with four CPUs and up to 6 TB memory.
