Office Scripts Announced
With a blog post in its own community portal, Microsoft has announced a public preview of Office Scripts for Excel on the Web. According to the software company, office Scripts is primarily used for the simple automation of recurring tasks and processes. Using the script recorder integrated in Excel on the Web, these can be recorded and saved in OneDrive for Business. Once saved, scripts can be executed again in other Excel workbooks.
According to Microsoft, no special programming skills are required for Office Scripts. Office Scripts is based on JavaScript, the scripts are edited in a fully TypeScript based editor directly in Excel on the Web.
The preview of Office Scripts will be unlocked in the coming weeks in all Office 365 clients with an Office 365 E3 or E5 license and must be activated as a new feature in the Admin Center. The first preview of Office Scripts will initially only be available in Excel on the Web; Microsoft is at least promising a corresponding extension of the desktop version of Excel.
