Office 2007 Expires 2017
As recently confirmed by Microsoft, the support for Office 2007 will no longer be extended and will end in October 2017. This will even affect enterprise customers with a Premier Support contract who, in the past, would have still been supported by Microsoft even after the end of Extended Support. In addition to the Office suites, the announced end of support also applies to server products like Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, Project Server, and Office Communications Server.
The increasing utilization of Office 365 and the weakening demand of enterprises for customized support are Microsoft’s reasons to discontinue Premier Support, too. Free security updates for Office 2007 SP3 will be available until the end of October 2017, updates for Exchange 2007 SP3 will already be ceased in April 2017.
The end of the Office 2007 support indirectly also affects Office 365. On the Office 365 portal, a service message was published, announcing that the support of RPC over HTTP for the Outlook desktop version will end on October 31,2017, and only MAPI over HTTP will be a valid transport protocol. 2007 is the last Outlook version using RPC/HTTP only. All later versions of Outlook are able to use the MAPI/HTTP protocol.
