New Project Version Released
Microsoft has announced a new version of its project management solution Project. Designed exclusively for use in the cloud, "Project for the Web" offers its users up-to-date methods for cloud-based management, planning, and monitoring of projects. Microsoft's "Project for the Web" will be integrated into the Microsoft Power Platform, the platform for business processes, functions and services, such as PowerApps, Microsoft Flow, or Power BI. “Project for the Web” is based on Office 365 groups and can be used with Office 365 applications.
Customers with a Project Online Professional or Project Online Premium subscription can use the new project at no extra cost. The Project Online Desktop Client, on the other hand, cannot connect to “Project for the Web”.
For the supported on-premise variants Project Server 2016 and Project Server 2019 nothing changes with the new version. As Microsoft assured, the extended support for both editions will end in July 2026. Whether there will continue to be an on-premise version in the future, the software group has left open.
