Microsoft Extends Support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
Shad Larsen, Director of Windows Business Planning at Microsoft, has posted in his blog that the lifetime support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will be extended again. This is Microsoft’s response to the criticism that the support for recent Intel processors of the 6th generation (Skylake) would be ended much too early.
The extended support for Windows 7 has been prolonged for two years and will end on January 14, 2020; for Windows 8.1 the support will end on January 14, 2023. However, this information primarily refers to complete systems of the major PC manufactures. There is no statement whether the extended support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will also be granted for other notebooks, desktops, or custom-built systems based on Intel processors of the 6th generation.
