Microsoft Announces Cloud-Based Windows with Multi-User Environment
Microsoft announced a new enterprise product as part of its Ignite 2018 conference with Windows Virtual Desktop. These are virtualized Windows desktops offered in Azure. Windows Virtual Desktop is optimized for Office 365 ProPlus and supports Windows 10 multi-user environments. Windows Virtual Desktop is not limited to Windows 10, but also includes virtual desktops with Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Extended Security Update.
According to Microsoft, Windows Virtual Desktop will support own business applications, in addition to the Microsoft Store. Deployment is not limited to the full Windows Desktop, it also allows you to virtualize individual applications and seamlessly deploy them on a Windows 10 endpoint.
Windows Virtual Desktop is subject to free use for subscribers of Microsoft 365 E3, E5 or F1 and Windows E3 and E5. However, Azure subscription is still required when using virtualized desktops, as the storage and compute consumption are billed.
