Internet Explorer 11 Now Final Before Shutdown!
With the announcement that support for Internet Explorer 11 for Microsoft 365 apps will be discontinued in August 2021 at the latest, the browser is finally about to be shut down. Starting in the coming months, the company will gradually phase out support for its own apps and services for IE 11 and the Legacy Edge - the Edge browser from Windows 10, based on Microsoft's own browser engine. Microsoft Teams will be the first to do so. From November 30, the Microsoft Teams web app will no longer be usable in Internet Explorer 11 and support for all other web apps from the Microsoft 365 portal will end on August 17, 2021.
However, Internet Explorer 11 will not disappear completely for the time being. Microsoft is well aware, that many of its corporate customers use their own apps that depend on this browser. Support for Internet Explorer 11 will continue until support for the operating system in which the browser is integrated is discontinued.
The Legacy Edge reaches its "End of Life" much earlier. Microsoft will provide security updates for the browser for the last time on March 9, 2021.
As an alternative browser, the company recommends the new version of Edge to all its customers. Microsoft uses, like many other manufacturers, the Chromium Engine for the browser. Edge is now an integral part of the current Windows 10 version 2004.
