Innovations for OneDrive and SharePoint Presented
At the SharePoint Conference North America, Microsoft announced several new features and functionality for SharePoint and OneDrive, aimed primarily at subscribers to Office 365 Business and Enterprise.
One of these innovations is SharePoint Spaces for Office 365, a technology that allows users to create and publish mixed-reality 3D spaces. SharePoint Spaces does not necessarily require a Windows mixed reality headset, such as HoloLens, but can also be used with a browser. Possible application scenarios for SharePoint Spaces in the view of the software company are the areas of product development, recruitment, or training.
For OneDrive for Business, the sharing feature will be unified across the desktop, mobile, and web platforms and equipped with new features. In the future, the download of shared documents can be blocked, and anonymous links can be protected with a password. Other new features concern to the mobile OneDrive app for iOS and Android devices. The app's built-in scanning capability, which lets you add and edit multiple pages directly into cloud storage, will gain a prestigious place. New in OneDrive for Business will also be the support of automatic camera upload for photos and videos, which is currently only available for the personal OneDrive.
Microsoft has announced that it will be able to redirect the Windows user folders, such as desktop, documents or pictures, directly to OneDrive for Business. In addition, the initial setup of the OneDrive synchronization client for Windows will also be extended. Until now, only the setup of the user-own cloud storage could be automated, in the future it will be possible to include SharePoint libraries into the initial configuration, too.
Administrators also get a new feature that allows them to output all external links in an Office 365 tenant to a clear report. This report contains not only internal links, but also the shared anonymous external links, and the links with enhanced security. In addition, OneDrive administrators will in future have the option to delegate rights from a OneDrive for Business account, whose owner has left, to anyone within the organization.
Not all functions are available yet, but according to Microsoft, will be gradually rolled out to all clients in the course of this year.
