End of Support for Microsoft Office 2007
As planned, and in the past year already confirmed by Microsoft, the support for Office 2007 will end in 2017. This will even affect corporate customers with a Premier Support contract for Office products.
In addition to the Office suites, the announced end of support also applies to server products like Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, Project Server, and Office Communications Server.
First Microsoft Exchange 2007 will no longer be supported after April 11. On October 10, there will follow Office 2007, Visio 2007, Project and Project Server 2007 as well as SharePoint Server. Only Office Communication Server 2007 R2 will be supported until next year, ending on January 8, 2018.
The increasing utilization of Office 365 and the weakening demand of enterprises for customized support are Microsoft’s reasons to discontinue Premier Support, too.
Microsoft offers for its products 5 years of Mainstream Support, and after this time 5 more years of Extended Support. During Extended Support, only security updates will be delivered; corrections of errors will only be performed against payment. After those 10 years of support, corporate customers can decide to pay for a Premier Support contract with Microsoft that will however include only parts of the Office products.
