Details About SharePoint Server 2019 Released
In addition to many innovations introduced for SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business, Microsoft has also published detailed information on SharePoint Server 2019, the upcoming version for local installation, at the SharePoint Conference North America.
The most important innovations concern OneDrive as well as the introduction of the modern experience. In the future, the OneDrive sync client will also allow the synchronization of libraries from local team sites or personal sites and support the function files-on-demand. With the introduction of the modern experience, SharePoint Server 2019 receives the modern interface already familiar from SharePoint Online. This includes, for example, the templates for modern team and communication sites, the personal homepage SharePoint Home, libraries and lists in the modern view, but also a revised function for sharing content. Other enhancements comprise the integration of PowerApps and Flow, administration enhancements, and further simplification of hybrid scenario setup.
However, SharePoint Server 2019 will not have any additional features compared to its cloud counterpart SharePoint Online. It is rather the opposite. All new features for SharePoint Server are already available in SharePoint Online. Microsoft will release its first public preview in June and present the final release of SharePoint Server 2019 in the fall.
