Creators Update Comes with Edge Innovations
Likely, in March or April Microsoft will release a new Windows 10 version which is officially called “Creators Update”. In the past, many feature highlights and functions have been presented concerning 3D, mixed-reality experiences, improvements of system management, and enhanced security. Now, for the first time, the software company uttered also Edge browser improvements.
One of those innovations will be a revised management of browser tabs. Thus, it will be possible to preview all open tabs at a glance over the browser’s address bar. This preview is designed to simplify not only the navigation between tabs, but also to close tabs that no longer required. An additional feature allows users to save groups of tabs as an independent session, fade them out, and open them at any time again. According to Microsoft, this feature is addressed to users who have to perform several tasks and want to switch quickly from one to another.
Furthermore, the browser will provide the feature to function as a reader for electronic books. E-books from the Microsoft Store can read and managed via Edge. For this, the toolbar has been expanded with a new icon, leading to an E-book-hub with all purchased books. In addition, Edge will also support electronic books in PDF and EPUB Format.
Microsoft highlights the “payment request API” for Edge as another important innovation that should simplify the payment in online shopping. Vendors will be able to integrate in their systems a direct Edge-connectivity. Hence, a payment process could be conducted based on locally stored payment details. With this new release, the number of available browser enhancements in the Windows Store should constantly increase. Therefore, Microsoft has developed the Edge extension platform. Developers have been granted access to many more Edge APIs.
When exactly the Creators Update for Windows 10 will be released has not been confirmed yet. As release date Microsoft carries on pronouncing the beginning of 2017.
