Chargeable Support Extension for Windows 7
Microsoft will extend the extended support for Windows 7 for three years, but for a fee and only for corporate customers. As the software company explains in a blog post, companies can purchase a Windows 7 Extended Security Update (ESU) after the end of extended support on 14 January 2020. The ESU is sold per device and the price increases from year to year.
The Extended Security Update will be available until January 2023 and can be purchased by customers using Windows 7 in volume licensing. Customers with active Software Assurance also receive a discount. In addition, Office 365 ProPlus will be supported on devices with active Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU) until January 2023.
Microsoft offers five years of Mainstream Support for its products, followed by another five years of Extended Support. In Extended Support, only security updates are delivered; extensions or bug fixes will then only be carried out against payment.
